    Moderatrice hannah : Hi pennygirl, welcome to the chat! I am sure we can help you can find some equivalent products in America but in the meantime as a guideline you can eat any dairy product that is sugar free and under 2% fat so you can mix no fat plain yogurt with some herbs and perhaps find some low fat cottage cheese. Cheese under 7% fat is what we call a tolerated food and you can have 30g a day. Please message us from your slimming apartment for any queiries you may have.. have a good day!

    Moderatrice cathy : Dear Ronster, welcome to our live chat ! Don't worry and don't be nervous about your coaching, everything will be ok, we will do our best to lead you to your true weight ! You can have either tuna in water or smocked one. All dairies have to be no more than 2% fat and sugar free. Your attack phase will last 2 days indeed, so follow your instructions, your weight will go down for sure. Each person has his own history and past, so it is normal that your friend's attack phase was different from yours. Don't forget to move as much as you can, you will optimize the coaching.     turnerhamp : You asked that I contact you during live chat as I had a "bad" couple of days. Actually I am sticking to the diet pretty well but have been out for 3 nigthts in a row and have had one or two glasses of wine each night. It's really hard to go out and not have the odd tipple.......

Unfortunately all lapses no matter how small have an impact on your diet so you really must try and avoid these at all costs as will slow down your weight loss considerably. Please for the next week be strict with yourself, drink lots of water, take some exercise and enjoy a diet coke or something when you go out. When you see that your scales have gone down the next day it will be worth it I promise! You can also message us from your slimming apartment to let us know how you are getting on. Be strong you can do it!

In the meantime, just think to have food which doesn't need a long preparation time : fat free dairies, oat bran pancake (you can make it the day before), ham, smocked fish, etc...     pajarita : Hi, I'll be at work while the chat is live so I might not get a chance to participate live but, I really want to ask anyone who lives in the UK (I'm based in London) if they have been able to find Sugar Free Cocoa Powder that is low fat and if so, where? is it available to order online? I have searched for weeks now, online and in stores (Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, M&S, Holland & Barret and Waitrose) and it just seems Mission Impossible!! I am dreaming of being able to eat some of the many chocolate recipes on offer but can't find the right Cocoa Powder, please help! Thank you so much,

It would seem that if it is difficult in the UK to find the 11% fat sugar free cocoa powder then you can use the 20% fat sugar free coca powder but only use one little coffee spoon a day... I hope that this will be easier to find for you so that you can enjoy some chocolate treats!
    ren1234 : Hello,Are we allowed to eat sourdough bread instead of wholemeal? I am on the consolidation phase but I am hesitant to start introducing carbs like bread because i feel like my weight will go up.
    Moderatrice hannah : Hi ren1234, welcome to the chat. Have no fear! It is now fine to start introducing some carbs but please use wholemeal bread becasue it is the best one. The same goes for when you have your startchy food portions, try to eat wholemeal pasta, brown rice etc. Keep on drinking water and doing your exercises and you will be fine, enjoy it!
    s_baradei : I have gone through my recipes. However, I just started the attack phase. The directions say not to eat any products not on the list. However, some ingredients such as oil are included in the recipes listed for me. Please advise if I can prepare the recipes as directed. Or if these are not the correct recipes for the Attack Phase. Thanks!
    Moderatrice cathy : Hello baradei, avoid oil during the attack phase, but you can prepare these recipes once you will join the cruise phase ! The amount of oil is not huge when you brought it back to one person. Enjoy your meal and have fun with our Dukan recipes !
    lornagapp : another question about ham. It says you can eat it as long as lean, no fat etc, but then it's on the list of minor lapses. How can it be on both lists?
    Moderatrice hannah : Hi lornagapp, thank you for your question. We are going to modify this to make it clearer but you are allowed rindless extra lean ham without the fat but not cured ham and all those kinds..

    Moderatrice cathy : Welcome bigace ! Tofu is allowed during all the diet, attack phase included. You can use curry, pepper (and other spices !) or herbs to spice it up !

    Glenfox : How can I motivate myself to complete the last twelve days of the Cruise phase? The coaching tips are no longer as fresh and relevant because I have seen them in many combinations before! I have lost 17 lbs and have another 5 to go. The process is impressive both practically and psychologically, but at this stage I feel I need a different spur to help me complete this stage. Is this a common feeling and, if so, what advice can you give me and what unexpected direction could your programme take?
    Moderatrice Pierre : Dear Glenfox, you are now in a passage that dieters know really well; That's the moment where you are really closed to your target. So you have already get all the benefits but it's not finished yet and you have to make a last effort and that one is maybe the most difficult one. Because in your head you think that is already finished. So what to do now is something really hard but you have to is 4 days of PP, with drinking two litres of water or any other liquids allowed. Eat as less salty as possible and walk one hour and ask the pharmacist for a vegetal drainer. Then come back on the 5th day to tell me how things are. Have a nice day and I'm waiting for you.
    lornagapp : HiConcerned about the amount of eggs that are in the recipes, plus those you are allowed to eat, say as part of breakfast. I saw that you shouldn't exceed 5 a week, I seem to be getting through an awful lot!
    Moderatrice cathy : Hello lornagapp, if you don't have cholesterol problems, you can have 5 whole eggs per week. If recipes ask you to use more eggs, just keep the egg whites. So the pleasure will be maintained !

    roundhouse : I have reached this maddening plateau and have been well and truly stuck for the last week. The diet is going on and so is the exercise but increasing this is not easy as I am very involved in the charity work I do and family and this is the point I have reached before on a couple of diets, so I have a real struggle to continut to progress. I have read that you are now 68.7 and you have done a better job than a younger woman. I'm surprised that you are talking about a plateau because you have already reached your true weight which is 69 kilos. Do I have to understand that you want to go further, it's not my recommendation. Keep your motivation and your efforts to stabilize this weight by passing the third phase the consolidation one. This phase is a transition between the whole diet and no diet at all.and then come back to me because this transition is very delicate and one of the main keys of my method.     turnerhamp : I have stupidly arranged to go for a Thai meal with friends tomorrow night and I can't think what I can have that won't be dripping in sauce! Do you have any suggestions? The only thing I can think of for a starter is Chicken satay without the satay!
    Moderatrice cathy : Dear turnerhamp, the following thaï dishes will help you to stay in the Dukan method : grilled food (seafood, poultry, ...), beef skewers without the sauce. If you are in a PV day, you can have steamed vegetables or just let aside the seasoning if you don't have other alternatives (green papaya salad as for example). Thaï food is mainly based on rice, but ask the restaurant manager if he can replace it by vegetables. Satay sauce is too fatty indeed, so avoid it. As for beverages, ask some diet sodas or water. The next day, rise up your physical activity, everything will be ok ! Have a nice restaurant time !

    bigace : Hi, I have been on the diet for 2 weeks. Please could you clarify these points: 1. On the attack phase and the PP days, i know onions are allowed but are they unlimited? 2. From what i can gather we are allowed 1.5tbs of oat bran followed by 2tbs in further stages. Please could you tell me the weight, based on 15g per tbs i think we are allowed 22.5g on the attack phase and 30g following - is that correct? 3. I understand we are allowed unlimited (up to 1kg) per day of yoghurt/fat free diary. Does this include muller light vanilla flavour and toffee flavour? thanks
    Moderatrice Pierre : Dear Bigace, thank you very much for all these questions which have to be well understood by everyone. For onions you are right it's perfectly allowed even on PP days BUT only as a seasonning which mean that it's for the taste and for feeding. To be clearer don't use more than a big tablespoon of onions. More would be considered as a vegetable. For oat bran I don't like very much numbers in general, I prefer a natural measurement the table spoon. But I know that the size of this spoon varies with the country and the culture so I have decided to give you the freedom to find the table spoon you want. And if the Australian one have two or three grammes more than the UK one or the Us one you can use your own Australian tablespoon without any problem. Because counting grammes can become an obssession. So buy the table spoon you want! for the muller light yogurt you can have the vanilla one as a it's allowed but avoid it if you are on stagnation. The toffee one is forbidden. Have a nice day.

    gmallen : I'm afraid of muscle loss and weakness as time goes by despite doing the daily exercises and walking for an hour most days. I'm an anxious person and have learned ways to cope but am finding myself more fearful than excited as I lose weight. The exercise I'm doing improves my mood as well as my strength.     Moderatrice cathy : Dear gmallen, don't worry, we are here to help you. Your body changes day by day, you will need time to reappropriate your body shape, that is normal ! A high protein intake will prevent you from muscle loss, so just follow your daily instructions and continue to move like you do, it is very good ! If you feel weak, go and see your doctor to do a complete check up, he will probably give you some advices about vitamins and minerals supplements. Please allow you some restful moments, switch off the light, close your eyes and listen to classical music or jazz... it will help you to relax ! I trust you, you will do it !

    Moderatrice cathy : Hello marisold, if you have a high cholesterol rate, don't have more than 5 whole eggs per week (if you need more, just keep the egg whites). As far as PP are concerned, focus on fatty fish like salmon, tuna, eel, herring, etc... do you daily physical activities, and you can also have one bottle of Benecol light per day if needed.     olgakarmen : Hello Dr. Dukan is me again . Im sorry for asking too much but a lot of the food is new to me since I was born in Mexico and you know the food is very different. The positive thing is that I love seafood, specially fish, salmon, tuna and shrimps so basically these are the main ingredients on my diet. I also like wheat a lot. Can I eat wheat pasta and wheat tortillas? Also, Im not allowed to consume dairy, including milk, chesse or yougurt, there is any substitutes I can eat instead?
    Moderatrice hannah : Hi olgakarmen, That is great that you have so much fish and seafood available how lucky you are! You can have wheat bran and oat bran but nothing else like pasta or bread for the moment. Yuo can have one plain soya yogurt a day and also 15cl of plain soya milk.

You will have to adapt two things : first, during the meal which precedes your running trainings, please add 150 g of cooked cereals (pasta, rice, semolina, etc). Then, during your effort, if you have a lack of energy, you can either have 200 mL of sugar free fruit compote or 1 unit of your smart energizer gel. The rest will not change, just follow your Dukan diet instructions. Give us some news, we want you to do a good result on that marathon course !
    grethas : Am I allowed any olive oil in the attack phase, or any phase for that matter?
    marisold : Dear Dr. Dukan, I see from the website that you are in favour of drinking Diet Coke during the programme. Are we allowed to drink it (in moderation) throughout the programme or only from a certain phase onwards? Many thanks, Marisol
    Moderatrice hannah : Hi grethas welcoem to the chat! No sorry no oil or fat of any kind is allowed in this diet... you can have 3 drops of oil if you have to grease the pan but to do this put three drops on some kitchen paper and sweep around the pan. It is best avoided altogether though. For dressings, sauces and suggested cooking methods please browse the recipes in your slimming apartment :)
    Moderatrice Pierre : Dear Marisold, thanks for your question. We have to clarify the problem of aspartame and soda light in general. About aspartame this product in contrary to the current opinion is natural. It's made with two amino acids that you can find in any fish or meat. furthermore it does exist since nearly 20 years and it is used in every country in the world by nearly one billion of people including children without noticing any kind of problem. In Europe the heatlh European commission have authorized it even during a pregnancy. Last month I was on a French scientific programme on television and I was talking about food and cancer with the most famous French cancer specialist the professor Khayat and I have profited of this special occasion to ask him what he was thinking about aspartame. he answered : I know two things: overweight is carcinogenic which is really proved. On the other hand aspartame you have to think about aspartame not as a carcinogenic product but the opposite, aspartame by helping people to lose weight mus t considered as an anti carcinogenic. I know that many people broadcast a bad opinion about aspartame, they are wrong and I have spend this time with you to clarify a lot of this recurrent problem. In consequence, you can drink light soda but do not forget it's not water and drink it only if you need sugar in mouth. When you are thirsty please go back on water.

You have to take it even if you stagnate, oat bran is an exceptionnal food with a lot of a nutritionnal advantages ! Please wait few days before doing a festive meal, your metabolism has to reintegrate food which was forbidden until now, so go slowly in the consolidation phase.     rosieroe : I am sure you must have mentioned it somewhere but the only ref I can find is that if you take a glass of wine you must not have any for 2 wks and spirits are an absolute no. I am in the cruise stage and wondering when I can have a drink safely. I cant see any ref in the consolidation period either
    Moderatrice hannah : Hi rosieroe, thank you for your question. Strictly speaking no alcohol is allowed on the diet. IF you are really missing it then you may have one glass of red wine a week and the next day drink lots of water and do lots of exercise. Just be aware that it will slow down your weight loss..; you can be the judge! In your consolidation phase you can have one drink with your celebration meal.
    marisold : Are we allowed to eat serrano ham (cutting out all fat) and green olives at any point during the programme? I'm guessing the answer to the latter is going to be 'no', given than we're not allowed any oil... Many thanks, Marisol
    Moderatrice cathy : Dear marisol, serrano ham is unfortunately too rich in fat, so it is forbidden until the celebration meal (during the consolidation phase). That answer is also the same for green olives, just wait a little... be patient, you will get there!
    olflehema : Hi, I am interested in cooking but have noticed that many recipes call for 0% fromage frais, which I cannot find here. The only one I did find had a thick layer of strawberry confiture on the top of it. Can you suggest a substitute for me? Kind regards, Olflehema
    Moderatrice hannah : Hi olflehema, thank you for your message, where in the world are you? Unfortunately the strawberry confiture is not allowed so please try and find some dairy under 2% fat that you can use instead... let us know how you get on!
    victorialaine : I have a message for MariaTJ. Oat bran is available at 'Woolies' (Safeway) in the health food section, both Lowan and Lotus brands. Lowan is a good company. Woolies also make their own brand, but I am not sure of the quality. Good luck.

    User1 : Why is the toffee yorhurt forbidden? I have been eating it (perhaps that is why I am not losing weight??) but it is fat free and only flavouring and no more calories than the other flavours.
    Moderatrice cathy : Hello User, toffee yoghurt is too rich in fat (I think it is not totally 0 % of fat) and in sugar, so please avoid it. It can therefore explain your stagnation. Go go go you will manage it !

    Moderatrice hannah : Hi charliebear, don't worry just eat until you feel full and try to get into a rhythm of three meals a day, they don't have to be three courses! The important thing is that you never get hungry on this diet...
    Domicela : I have a tendency for kidney stones. What should I do to make sure I am not harming my kidneys while following the diet?
    Moderatrice cathy : Hello Domicela, first of all, go and see your doctor, he will give you some good advices. As far as your diet is concerned, please drink a minimum of 1,5 L water per day, don't forget to have 3-4 dairies per day. Moreover, avoid smocked food, seashells, giblets, alcohol and vegetables like spinach, cabbage, asparagus and watercress. Take care, hope you will get better !
